What to Expect

Session Overview

What to Expect

Your maternity session is designed to be relaxed, enjoyable, and completely tailored to you. Here’s a quick look at what you can expect from start to finish.

  • Before your session, we’ll connect via email questionnaire to go over all the details — I will ask various questions regarding wardrobe, styling, vision, and any specific ideas or preferences you have. This helps me get to know you and make sure everything feels perfectly “you.”

    Maternity Session Questionnaire

  • You don’t need to stress or overthink this — I’ve got you covered.
These simple tips will help you feel your best and make the most of your maternity session.

    1. Plan Ahead

    • Aim to schedule your session between 28–34 weeks, when your bump is beautifully round but you’re still comfortable moving and posing.

    • Try on your wardrobe a few days before your session (if possible) to make sure everything fits comfortably.

    • Steam or press your outfits ahead of time to avoid wrinkles in your photos.

    2. Get Rest + Stay Hydrated

    • Try to get a good night’s sleep the night before. You’ll feel more relaxed and your skin will thank you!

    • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your session — hydrated skin looks radiant in photos.

    • Eat a light meal or snack before your session to keep your energy up (especially if you’re including family or kids).

    3. Hair + Makeup

    • If you’re scheduling with a professional artist, book your appointment for 2–3 hours before so you have plenty of time to relax and arrive unhurried.

    • If you’re doing your own, follow the simple prep tips provided — keep it soft, fresh, and natural.

    • Don’t try anything drastically new right before your session (new hair color, spray tan, or skincare product). Stick to what feels like you.

    4. Nails + Skin

    • Neutral nails photograph best — soft pinks, whites, or nude tones.

    • Moisturize your hands, arms, and legs before your session.

    • Avoid self-tanner unless you’re experienced with it; it can photograph unevenly.

    5. Include Your Loved Ones (Optional)

    • If your partner or children are joining, make sure they’re prepped too!

      • Encourage your partner to wear clean, neutral, wrinkle-free clothing.

      • Bring snacks or a quiet activity for little ones if they’ll be part of the shoot.

    • Let them know this is a time to connect and have fun — I’ll guide everyone naturally so it feels effortless.

    6. Relax and Trust the Process

    • Don’t worry about posing, angles, or what to do with your hands — that’s my job!

    • I’ll guide you every step of the way to make sure you look and feel amazing.

    • Most importantly, enjoy this experience. It’s not just about the photos — it’s about celebrating this fleeting, beautiful time in your life.

  • To help your session go smoothly and make sure you feel comfortable, relaxed, and fully prepared, here’s a quick list of what to have on hand:

    1. Wardrobe + Accessories

(View my complete styling guide here)

    • Your chosen outfits or gowns (recommendations in next section).

    • Nude and black undergarments — strapless or seamless styles work best under maternity gowns.

    • Accessories you love — hats, scarves, jewelry, or sentimental pieces that make your images feel personal.

    • For partner or family shots, bring coordinated outfits for everyone (keep tones simple and complementary).

    2. Touch-Up Essentials

    • Lipstick or gloss for touch-ups.

    • Powder or blotting papers to reduce shine.

    • Hairbrush or comb and a small can of hairspray (especially for outdoor sessions).

    • Makeup wipes for quick fixes if needed.

    3. Comfort Items

    • Water and a small snack — sessions can be longer than you expect!

    • A comfy pair of sandals or flip-flops for walking between locations.

    • A robe or easy cover-up for outfit changes.

    • Any props or keepsakes you’d like to include — ultrasound photo, baby shoes, letterboard, or heirloom items.

    4. For Outdoor Sessions

    • Bug spray or lotion (especially in warmer months).

    • Blanket or throw (for sitting poses).

    • Towel or wipes if we’re in nature or near water.

    5. For Studio Sessions

    • Your chosen wardrobe pieces or anything special you’d like incorporated.

    • Any personal touches — jewelry, flowers, or accessories.

    • If you’d like, bring a playlist or favorite music to help you relax and enjoy the experience.

    6. Most Importantly…

Bring your beautiful self and an open heart.
This is your time to slow down, breathe, and soak it all in. Don’t worry about posing or perfection — I’ll guide you every step of the way.

  • While hair and makeup aren’t included in your session, I highly recommend scheduling a professional artist for your maternity photos. It’s one of the easiest ways to elevate your final images and ensure you feel completely camera-ready and confident.

A little professional pampering goes a long way — it smooths your morning, enhances your natural features, and gives your photos that soft, glowing, polished look.

Here are two talented artists I love recommending:

    Make-Up Option 1: Nikra Beauty

    Make-Up Option 2: Christian Diaz Make-up

Hair Option 1: Lunatic Fringe Hair Salon

Hair Option 2: Landis Lifestyle Salon

  • If you’re planning to do your own hair and makeup — don’t stress. With a few simple prep steps and the right products, you can still achieve that soft, glowing, camera-ready look that photographs beautifully.

    Skin Prep

    • Start with a clean, moisturized face. Hydrated skin photographs best!

    • Apply a light primer to smooth your complexion and help your makeup last.

    • Avoid heavy SPF or oily moisturizers — they can create shine in photos.

    Foundation & Concealer

    • Choose a foundation that matches your skin tone (check it in natural light).

    • Blend well into your neck and hairline for a seamless finish.

    • Use a little concealer under your eyes and on any redness, then set with a light translucent powder.

    Eyes

    • Stick with neutral tones like soft browns, taupes, or golds — they flatter everyone and look timeless.

    • Curl your lashes and apply mascara to open up your eyes.

    • Skip shimmery shadows or glitter — they can reflect oddly in camera light.

    Brows

    • Lightly fill and shape your brows to frame your face naturally.

    Lips & Cheeks

    • A touch of blush adds healthy color. Cream blush blends beautifully and looks natural.

    • Choose a lip color close to your natural shade — pinks, peaches, or soft mauves photograph best.

    • Avoid glossy or sticky finishes — a satin or matte texture works best for photos.

    Hair

    • Soft curls or loose waves photograph beautifully and add natural movement.

    • Avoid tight updos or heavy hairspray — we want your hair to feel effortless and touchable.

    • If your session is outdoors, bring a brush or comb and a little touch-up spray for wind or humidity.

    Finishing Touches

    • Bring powder or blotting sheets to touch up shine during your session.

    • Keep lips hydrated with balm.

    • Most importantly — don’t overthink it. You’re beautiful, and I’ll take care of the rest with flattering light, angles, and posing.

  • This is where the magic happens! I’ll guide you through each pose and prompt so you never feel unsure of what to do. We’ll focus on natural movement, soft emotion, and capturing your true connection with your baby.

Sessions typically last anywhere from 15 minutes to 60 minutes (depending on the package you selected), but we’ll take our time so nothing feels rushed. I’ve been doing this a long time, and you can trust that the minimum number of images promised will absolutely be captured within your session time.

  • Your maternity session doesn’t end when the camera turns off — it’s just the beginning of bringing your story to life.
Here’s what you can expect after your session with me:

    1. Image Preview

Within 1–2 weeks, you’ll receive a small sneak peek — a few of my favorite images from your session — so you can relive a bit of that magic right away.

    2. Gallery Viewing + Ordering Appointment

Once your gallery is ready, we’ll schedule your in person reveal. During this time, I’ll walk you through your images and help you select the perfect pieces for your home — from heirloom albums to wall art and fine art prints.

This is where your story truly comes to life — through tangible artwork that you can hold, display, and cherish for generations.

    3. Prints, Albums + Wall Art

Each product I offer is crafted with longevity and quality in mind.

    • Albums are designed to tell your story beautifully and are custom-made to fit your style.

    • Wall art is available in a range of finishes and sizes to complement your home decor.

    • Fine art prints are printed on museum-grade paper, ensuring your images look timeless and elegant for years to come.

If you’re not sure what’s best for your space, I’ll happily guide you through your options during your reveal/ordering appointment.

    4. Digital Files

Your digital images will be delivered in high-resolution, ready for printing and sharing. You’ll receive them via private online gallery, along with easy instructions for safe storage once you have completed your ordering session.

    5. Keepsake + Next Steps

After your order is placed, I’ll take care of everything from retouching and printing to packaging and delivery.
Your finished artwork will be ready for pickup or shipped directly to your home within 1-2 weeks after your ordering session.

    6. A Little Thank You

I’m truly honored you’ve trusted me to capture this chapter of your life. Every session means something deeply personal to me, and I hope these images remind you of just how beautiful and strong you are.

I can’t wait to see how your artwork looks displayed in your home — it’s one of my favorite parts of the process.
And when your little one arrives, I’d love to continue telling your story with a newborn or family session.
